The Sahara – Morocco
I had visions of pictures of sweeping dunes as far as the eye could see. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, we spent most of the time on the back of camels (fun but my but is still partially asleep) on in a 4×4, there’s always next time
Here’s a few that came out ok, I quite like the black and white one.

Hello Geoff, I took a peek at your website, and loved the shot of the canal boat in France. Did you use photoshop, or was that the existing light? Either way, it was a fantastic photograph!
I saw them and liked them too. I think that Geoff is either using HDR (e.g. through Photomatix) or the “clarity” slider on Lightroom. Having said that, natural light does help too of course.
Sorry, I totally missed these comments! That shot of the canal boat was a 3 shot HDR put together in photomatix (well done visionarymarketing). It was a bit of an experiment after that using photoshop and Topaz adjust and LOTS of layer masks!
Basically that picture wouldn’t have been possible without a computer!
I don’t use the clarity slider much in the pictures I post here or on my site, but I do use the structure slider in Nik Effex Viveza a lot. It’s a bit more subtle.
Thanks Visionary Marketing and Geoff!
I like the mono one too – shots taken on bright sunny days can look great in b&w because of the harsh, high contrast light. It’s the composition of this shot that makes it and the shadow of the tree.
Thanks Mark. I was going to leave it as colour but at the last minute thought I’d try b&w!
Great deserts and fantastic pictures! Have you ever been to the Taklamakan Desert in Xinjiang? There you find sweeping dunes!
Thanks! No I’ve never been to the Taklamakan Desert, but I will be in the Namib later in the year so will get another chance then!
Great composition in the B&W photo! I have a soft spot for that…hmm!!.. abandoned solitude feeling!
Thanks!
splendid shots!!!
Wonderful collection of images. Especially the last one in black and white. Really makes me want to visit Morocco. I will definitely be following your blog. Great job!
Your pictures are beautiful. The HDR info is helpful too. Thanks!
